K-4
Mrs. Pat Nash
Mrs. Nash has taught at HCS for 5 years in K-4 and as a second grade teacher. She is a graduate of Concordia University and has a BA in education with an endorsement as kindergarten and pre-school specialist. Of her experience teaching at HCS Mrs. Nash has this to say, “God has truly blessed my life with the students and my fellow colleagues. Everyone wants every child to succeed, but more importantly, wants every child to know Jesus as their Savior.”
Kindergarten
Mrs. Debbie Kellogg
Mrs. Kellogg has taught at HCS for the past 12 years, after teaching at Faith Baptist Academy in Mattawan for 7 years. Mrs. Kellogg is a graduate Hyles Anderson College in Indiana with a degree in elementary education. Mrs. Kellogg likes working at HCS because of her love of seeing the children grow and develop into fine young ladies and gentlemen.
First/Second Grade
Miss Julie Hitchcock
Miss Hitchcock graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelors in education. She has enjoyed teaching at HCS for 12 years. Her love for HCS is that she is able to share about the Lord and His goodness, as well as give a sound education to the students in an environment of love and caring.
Third Grade
Mrs. Marlys Ambs
Mrs. Ambs received her bachelors in elementary education from Tri-State University, and went on to do 18 hours of learning disabilities from Western Michigan University. She has taught at Christian schools including Lake Area Christian, Factoryville Christian and in the Sturgis public school system. She is now in her 13th year at Howardsville. Mrs. Ambs enjoys working at HCS because of the small class sizes and family atmosphere between staff members.
Fourth Grade
Mrs. Jennifer Millard
The newest addition to the elementary teaching staff, Mrs. Millard graduated from Appalachian Bible College with a degree in elementary education. She came to HCS after teaching 5 years at Factoryville Christian School. Mrs. Millard has this to say about Howardsville Christian School, “Howardsville is a loving, caring atmosphere that keeps the student’s needs (heart and mind) first.”
Fifth Grade
Mrs. Tammy Parks
After starting her education at Grace College, Mrs. Parks transferred to Western Michigan University to finish her elementary education degree. Mrs. Parks has taught in Christian School in Flint, Michigan as well as 6 years at Howardsville.
Sixth Grade
Miss Brenda DeVries
Miss DeVries received her degree in elementary education from Hyles Anderson College after a year of Bible education at Word of Life Bible Institute. She first taught at Faith Christian School in Mattawan for 14 years, and has been at HCS for eleven years. She has this to say about her years of service at HCS, “I love teaching here at HCS because of the family atmosphere.”
Secondary
Mrs. Sue Behrends
Mrs. Behrends received a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a major in Spanish from Goshen, College. She has served as a substitute teacher in both Nottawa and Centreville School Districts until taking the Spanish position at HCS in 1992. With 20 years of experience at Howardsville, Mrs. Behrends has this to say, “I enjoy working at HCS because I believe The Father has called me here and is blessing the classes I teach. I only want to be in the center of His calling. Following His calling is always fulfilling and peaceful.”
Mr. Thomas Carveth
Mr. Carveth has a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Western Michigan University as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from WMU. This is his second year at HCS where Mr. Carveth indicates we have an excellent teaching environment and a Christ-centered education. He also indicates that we have a student body of quality and character supportive of one another.
Mrs. Shelley Cline
A 2005 graduate WMU, with a major in English and a minor in History, Mrs. Cline began teaching at HCS beginning with the 2007 school year. Mrs. Cline indicates that she likes working at HCS because of the common ground shared with her peers in our love for the Lord. It is a unique and special bond that we share.
Mr. Sheldon Combs
Pastor Combs is starting his third year of teaching Bible at Howardsville Christian School. Along with his teaching responsibilities he is also associate pastor of Howardsville Gospel Chapel. He is a graduate of Appalachian Bible College, and appreciates HCS because it provides an encouraging and uplifting atmosphere for the students, family and staff.
Mrs. Michelle Dulaney
Mrs. Dulaney graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, and has been teaching at HCS since 1999. Mrs. Dulaney is currently teaching in the middle school department as well as Freshman History and Yearbook class. “I like working at HCS as the kids seem to enjoy being here as much as I do.”
Mrs. Teri Jones
Mrs. Jones attended Taylor University and Western Michigan University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Mrs. Jones taught two years in the Sturgis public schools and began teaching at Howardsville Christian School in 2001. She says “I love working at HCS because the students and staff are such a blessing to work with every day. I also enjoy the freedom to share my faith every day in every lesson that I teach.”
Mr. Kent Miller
A graduate of Eastern Mennonite University with degrees in Chemistry, Math and Education, Mr. Miller is the newest addition to the secondary teaching staff. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Science Education from the Institute for Creation Research. Mr. Miller’s teaching experience includes both Christian and public schools in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Michigan. He enjoys teaching at HCS because of the Christian environment and his freedom to teach Creation Science.
